Robert A. IngramR. Stewart Perry

R. Stewart Perry grew up in Lexington, graduating from Tates Creek High School and attended the University of Kentucky and Lexington Community College.  Since 1983 he has been the co-owner of Perry & Perry State Farm Insurance, one of the largest State Farm Insurance agencies in the state of Kentucky.  He is married to the former Sheril Casner of Versailles and has one son John-Stewart Perry age 21.

Stewart is and has been very involved in many community and civic activities.  He is Past Chairman of the Lexington Fayette County Parks board, Past-President of Southeastern Babe Ruth Baseball League, Past-President of the Bluegrass Association of Insurance and Financial Professionals, Past-President of the Cumberland Hill Neighborhood Association, Past-Chairman of the UK Wesley Foundation, Past Vice-President, Treasurer & Currently a board member of Equestrian Events (The Rolex KY 3 Day Event).  He is a past member of the board of directors of the Lexington Forum, The Lexington Area Sports Authority, and was a member of the National Board of Directors of the American Diabetes Association.  Stewart is a member of and involved on many committees and projects of such organizations as, the Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, Lexington Lions Club, Lexington Rotary Club, The Pyramid Club, and Centenary Methodist Church.

Stewart was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 1990, since that time he has been actively involved in the American Diabetes Association. Stewart was the Chairman of the Bluegrass Chapter for many years and helped organize many of the fundraising events still in existence. He served on the Kentucky Affiliate Board of Directors where he served as Vice-Chair and was Chair-Elect when it became a part of the Southern Region.  He served on the Southern Region Board of Directors where he chaired the Volunteer Development Committee and is Past Chairman of the Board.  Stewart has served on the National Community and Volunteer Development committee, chaired the Advocacy Task Force of the Program Committee, and is Past Chairman of the National Advocacy and Govt Relations Committee.  He currently serves as Chair-Elect of the National Board of Directors of the American Diabetes Association.  Stewart is a member of the Kentucky Diabetes Network, a founding member of the Fayette County Diabetes Collation.  He has been appointed by the Governor of Kentucky to the Get Healthy KY Board, The Diabetes Research Trust Board and the Sixth District Judicial Nominating Committee.  

Stewart is and has been very involved in politics since the early 1980’s when he ran his father’s successful campaign for Lexington City Council.  Stewart has advised many successful candidates for public office in Kentucky and has served on many campaign organizing committees.  He is known as a passionate and tenacious advocate of diabetes and insurance related issues on both a state and federal level.
